about us

ModelTek was launched by three industry specialists with over 60 years’ experience between them:

Jon Edmunds, Paul Wootton and Luke How.

With so many years of experience in the steel fabrication industry, the team know the use of 3D models early in a project can assist in identifying clashes, thus saving time and money throughout the construction process. Having worked closely with site contractors previously, they understand how to take architectural and engineering design to create a constructible solution. The team at ModelTEK has a passion for 3D modelling and using forward-thinking technology to allow construction projects to flow seamlessly.

Jon Edmunds

General Manager / Senior Modeller

As an experienced 3D modeller, Jon has been working in the drafting/steel detailing/3D modelling industries since 2005. Jon started his career working for a leading Tasmanian steel fabricator, where he was responsible for working on major industrial and commercial infrastructure.

In 2020, Jon commenced his role as Senior Draftsman/3D Modeller at one of Tasmania’s leading engineering firms. It was in this role that the idea of ModelTek was born, as Jon identified the need for precise 3D modelling skills to be utilised at the commencement of projects, rather than at the fabrication point. From here, ModelTek was created.

Throughout his career, Jon has worked on a range of major projects such as the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre (Cradle Mountain, TAS), The Devonport Waterfront Hotel (Devonport, TAS), Super “T” Bridge Girder Moulds, (Manila Philippines), Silo Hotel (Launceston) Brooke St Pier (Hobart) and a range of aquaculture and mining industry infrastructure projects

Paul Wootton

Senior Modeller

After completing his Associate Diploma of Civil Engineering in 1994, Paul began his steel detailing career with a leading Tasmanian steel fabricator. He started using AutoCAD and moved to XSteel (Tekla Structures) software in 1998, gaining over 27 years of experience in 3D modelling and steel detailing.

In 2000, Paul undertook a working holiday in the UK, where he gained experience on a range of projects.

Over his time in the industry, Paul has completed many high-profile projects, including the UTAS Cradle Coast campus (Burnie, TAS), MONA (Hobart, TAS), Saffire Freycinet (Coles Bay, TAS), CH Smith Revitalisation project (Launceston, TAS), Macq01 Hotel (Hobart, TAS), and the West Coast Treetop Walk (Hokitika, NZ).

In 2002, Paul’s model of the Scottsdale Forestry Ecocentre placed runner up in Category 2 of the XSteel Australasian Modelling Competition.

Luke How

Senior Modeller

With over 20 years’ experience in the steel industry, Luke began his career in 1999 as a welder/fabricator. This role gave Luke a strong foundation and understanding of the industry from a practical perspective. In 2004, Luke commenced his Diploma in Engineering, which led him to undertake a position as a Structural Steel Detailer. In this role, Luke gained experience using AutoCAD in both 2D and 3D formats, before moving on to a role with a leading Tasmanian construction company where he gained experience with Tekla Structures and 3D scanning software.

Throughout his time in the industry, Luke has worked on a range of projects, including AAMI Park Stadium (Melbourne, VIC), the UTAS IMAS building (Hobart, TAS), Kingborough Community Hub (Hobart, TAS), Myer ICON Complex (Hobart, TAS), and Mac02 Wharf (Hobart, TAS).
